The Community You Will Join: Marketplaces Data and AI is Airbnb's data and AI execution org, responsible for the machine learning, data engineering, and analytics systems that power how guests find the right place to stay and how hosts succeed on the platform.
We build foundational data products used across Airbnb — by Trust, Customer Support, Search, and every team that needs a reliable, structured view of what is happening on our platform. The Core Entities program is the cornerstone of that foundation. It is the company's canonical semantic model for the objects that matter most to Airbnb — hosts, listings, users, and trips — and the events that happen across their lifecycles.
This work feeds the intelligence layer that Airbnb's next generation of AI products depends on, and it is one of the top priorities for the company's engineering leadership. The Difference You Will Make: You will own two closely connected areas: Entity Data Foundation — The value of a shared entity platform depends entirely on producers shipping high-quality, well-modeled data that downstream teams can actually rely on. You will lead the engineering execution that makes this real: partnering with data-producing teams across the company to onboard their entities to the shared semantic model, driving the attribute serving platform that delivers over 1,700 quality and behavioral signals at production scale, and maintaining the health and governance contracts that give consumers confidence in the data they build on.
This is platform work with direct product stakes — the teams consuming this data are building Airbnb's next generation of AI products, and what you ship is the foundation they stand on. Trip Intelligence — As Airbnb continues to expand beyond Stays, we have an opportunity to more proactively serve our guests and hosts. We are building a holistic, realtime data product (the Trip) to serve as a shared data product not just for analytics, but also to make trips better as they are happening.
Trip Intelligence is one of the highest-priority open problems on the roadmap. You will define and build it: own the trip entity schema from first principles, surface and resolve the competing representations currently scattered across reservations, messaging, customer support, and trust systems, and drive the real-time trip intelligence layer that aggregates signals across the trip lifecycle into a structured, queryable, near-real-time view. This signal layer is a direct dependency for proactive trip support, customer support triage, and host-facing AI products.
The combination is intentional. You are building foundational infrastructure that matters at company scale — and you have a concrete, high-visibility greenfield delivery to anchor your first year. A Typical Day: Drive entity onboarding with producer teams across the company — unblock teams stuck on data quality issues, resolve schema ambiguity, and close the gap between what the platform promises and what data owners actually experience.
Lead technical design on the trip entity — data model, lifecycle event taxonomy, real-time streaming architecture, and privacy-safe handling of message and conversation data. Closely partner with compute and data infrastructure teams to drive the state-of-the-art for realtime data processing at Airbnb. Partner with proactive trip support, customer support triage, and host AI product teams to validate that the signal layer meets their actual use cases, not a spec written in isolation.
